Grampari imageGrampari, the village and environmental development initiative at Asia Plateau, India, has recently launched its own website.

Grampari is currently expanding to meet the needs of the communities surrounding Asia Plateau.

Grampari (for Disha)Grampari stands for Grameen and Pariyavaran Rural and Ecology Centre. Housed in the old farm buildings at the far end of Asia Plateau, Grampari was established in 2007 to help neighbouring rural communities and rural India in general.

Grampari seeks to build capacity in rural India through thoughtful, innovative programmes in 3 areas:

Livelihoods - providing opportunities for self-employment and entrepreneurship

Leadership and Governance - strengthening local institutions, developing ethical leaders and empowering the voiceless

Health and Environment – improving quality of life through access to safe and sustainable drinking water, hygiene and sanitation and building capacity through natural resource management.

Grampari (for Disha)It is through these programmatic areas that we strive to reach our vision of a just and sustainable society for everyone.

But more importantly than what they do, it is how they work that makes Grampari so effective. They help communities identify their own problems and achieve their own solutions. Via this participatory approach, they strive for self-reliant communities where Grampari is no longer needed.

Grampari was featured in the April to June 2011 edition of Disha magazine
